The historical buildings are the best workplace for Claudio Montagni, who seeks in monuments, in archives and in the knowledge of old artisans for the secrets of “ancient building techniques”, in order to bring out that empirical culture that determined the quality of pre-industrial buildings.
The rediscovery of techniques and materials is due to more than thirty years of profession and is linked to research (also university), study and practical experimentation in the world of the restoration site, where empiricism combines with science through a suitable diagnostic design that precedes the building renovation work in every stage.
The techniques of the architectural renovation are based on a long experience of features of natural and artificial stony materials, wood, iron and other metals, glass, natural resins and pigments.
The used materials are selected according to their real features and the problems linked to the techniques chosen for their use considering their durability.
The mastery of pre-industrial materials and techniques allows particular applications in bioarchitecture or in converting present buildings into ecosupportable systems.
The rediscovery of ancient techniques, nowadays out-of-date or no more known, allows to achieve interesting results both from an energetic and an aesthetic point of view.
For this reason the Architecture Office has prepared different design methodologies, among which:
*ancient techniques applied to new buildings or projects with original formal solutions;
*new materials and techniques applied to historical buildings;
*historical materials to preserve contemporary architecture.
